Ready to Adopt
Thumberlina
Location: Dudley
Age: 3.5
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog
About: Arrival date 10/7/25. This girl arrived a teeny tiny 308g, but is now up to 320g, she is a very petite girl. In recent weeks she has started to show an interest in bugs and enjoys chasing crickets around. She is still very nervous, though she is getting more used to handling now. Her carer describes her as ' a sweet little thing. '
She did have dry skin when handed in, and her foster carer has been working hard on this. Her skin routine (brushing daily with soft baby brush) will need to be maintained to continue the progress she has made.
Needs an experienced owner who is used to handling nervous hogs so she can continue to build up trust in humans.
Suitable for: Experienced owner
Price: £40

Ready to adopt
Chester
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Age: 1 year (DOB: 24/6/24)
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog
About: Arrival date 8/8/25. Chester is a very nervous hog who was not used to being handled. His foster carer has been working on building up his trust in humans. He is a shy hog and does not like loud noises as they easily startle him. Ideally needs a quiet home, with no young children and an experienced, patient owner. He is learning it’s not so bad when he’s out and not being touched but he is still scared of being handled. It is going to take time to get him to trust humans, but he does walk onto his foster carers hand and licks them, however he gets scared if you move at the moment.
He loves playing on his wheel, getting poop everywhere! Loves his bugs and his chicken.
Health wise, no health concerns. Skin slightly dry, but has just started getting flaxseed on his food to help with this.
Suitable for: Experienced
Price: - £60

Under Observation
Lucas
Location: Thorton-Cleveleys
Age: 2.5
Species: African Pygmy Hedgehog
About: Arrival date 19/7/25. Lucas was handed in needing some extra special care. He is currently being treated for an eye infection, respiratory problems, mites and skin /quills issues related to the mites. The good news is that his quills are starting to grow back. He has almost finished his course of antibiotics for his respiratory infection and is on his second treatment for mites. He is having Imevarol baths just in case there's an underlying fungal infection, good kibble mix, and wider variety of bugs now. He is definitely heading in the right direction now. He is still bit huffy, but a much happier boy, and is loving his new wheel.
His foster carer renamed him Lucas as it is derived from the Latin word 'lucere' , meaning "to shine". We are hoping he will get his chance to shine and find love once he is fully recovered.

Adoption Confirmed
Hedgy
Location: Reading
Age: 1-2 years approx based on numerous factors
Species: APH
About: Joined Happy Quills 11/1/25. Hedgy came to Happy Quills underweight and suffering severe skin problems that even the vet could not find a solution for, so we made him a permanent foster. However, we moved him to one of our carers who runs a wildie rescue and she has miraculously managed to resolve his skin issues utilising her extensive knowledge. He is still a small guy, but his weight is now stable. Since his issues are now resolved we have made an unprecedented move and decided that he will now no longer be a permanent foster, but will get the chance to get his own forever home.
Likes: sniffing hair, wormies, toilet rolls, liner diving and running around the room like a loon
Dislikes: Anything resembling a proper bed to sleep in, being woken up.
Hedgy will need an Aveeno sensitive baby or oatmeal soak bath every two weeks with gentle toothbrush brushing and a thorough rinse in order to maintain his current skin condition and prevent his old skin issues resurfacing.
Suitable for: Experienced (due to skin maintenance)
Price: £60
